Along I-10 in Texas

Along I-10 in Texas

A nice little picnic stop along I-10 in Texas, between El Paso and Fort Stockton. This is quite a long drive (but hey, Texas is a big state!) and you should keep your fuel tank at least half full, especially if you have a larger rig like we did. Outside of El Paso, heading eastbound, there are not that many truck stops until you get closer to San Antonio – which is almost a three day drive for most folks.

An interesting thing to note is that the speed limit along this stretch of highway is 80 miles per hour!

The amazing thing to me about Texas is the clouds. You can see this giant puffy clouds for miles and miles. Traveling through the state along the countryside is like experiencing an IMAX western.

Canyon Lake Dam

Canyon Lake Dam

One of the places we visited is the resort town of Canyon Lake. The dam is the perfect place for a walk (about a mile) and there is a nice community park to take a picnic lunch. The view from the dam offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Guadalupe River

Guadalupe River

One of our favorite sites in Texas is the amazing views along the Guadalupe and Comal rivers. This region, just east of San Antonio, is a summer hotspot for toobers and river-goers. During the fall, the foilage and fishing are the excuse to head to the river.
