The Bonneville Salt Flats Recreation Area is an area covering 30,000 acres that consists of a white salt crust. The Flats are 12 miles long and 5 miles wide and the salt crust varies from 1 inch to 5 feet deep. It’s unlike any place you’ve ever been and definitely one of those must-see places to put on your list!

The park is located right off I-80 (between Salt Lake City, UT and Wendover, NV) and you can actually see several miles of the flats at a rest area west of Wendover. It’s a great stop without getting off the highway.

The weather in this region can be extreme depending on the season – from zero to 100 degrees. So if you do plan to visit make sure you have an idea of what the forecast will be. There is no camping at the flats but you can find campgrounds in Salt Lake City and Wendover (NV).
